Thankfully, Microsoft understood this and decided to lift the existing limit. Microsoft plans to increase this limit to 5,000 shared folders. The tech giant is now well aware of the fact that the previous limitation was annoying for many users. Jon LeCroy explained in a recent blog post why Microsoft decided to lift the limit. LeCroy stated that Outlook uses deep hierarchy notifications offered by Microsoft Exchange for regular synching of the folders. Therefore, the client gets a notification about the recent changes in the subtree of a specific folder. Moreover, LeCroy explains about the complication involved in handling shared folders. This feature will definitely help business users who are always looking for huge storage solutions. Once the update is available, they can easily take advantage of the increased shared folder limit.

The feature will be available for all users starting January 2020
