The most recent Patch Tuesday update saw the release of cumulative update KB3124263, but Microsoft also came up with other update files, as well. One of them is the old KB2952664 update client which was released quite a while ago for Windows 7 users.
Compatibility update for upgrading Windows 7 to Windows 10 released again
The update was known as “Compatibility update for upgrading Windows 7”, which, as you probably guessed judging by the name, was meant to ‘help’ Windows 7 users make the jump to Windows 10. It’s described like this: “This update helps Microsoft make improvements to the current operating system in order to ease the upgrade experience to the latest version of Windows.” It’s worth pointing out that this specific update applies only to Windows 7 Service Pack 1 users. We don’t know exactly what is the reason for the reissue of this specific patch, but it’s most likely mean to somehow improve the upgrade process to Windows 10 for Windows 7 users. This patch is responsible for showing the upgrade to Windows 10 on your Windows 7 computer and also for downloading the installer files needed for the deployment of Windows 10. Thus, if you feel like Windows 10 is not for you, you should stay away from it. Microsoft plans a more aggressive Windows 10 push this year, and the re-release of this specific patch could be part of that plan.
