Although, Microsoft Inc. is yet to make the sandbox feature announcement official; however, the features were spotted in the Feedback Hub quest with detailed information concerning its requirements and probably in the testing stage.

InPrivate Desktop for Windows

According to the reports, the sandboxed tool which will be called InPrivate Desktop for Windows is mainly a ‘speedy in-box VM that recycles whenever you close the untrusted application. Therefore, Windows 10 users in an enterprise network can carry out a one-time execution of untrusted software with this ‘upcoming’ feature. Additionally, InPrivate Desktop also links to a Wiki Page for ‘Madrid_Selfhost,’ which may potentially be the internal name for the sandboxed feature project. However, the Wiki page as at the moment redirects to MSA Login and requires that intending users be a part the Microsoft Azure Active Directory. Nevertheless, the InPrivate Desktop app was also spotted in the Microsoft Store thereby confirming the Feedback Hub post information; however, the application has been taken down by Microsoft as of today.

InPrivate Desktop System Requirements

On the other hand, before InPrivate Desktop app for Windows was taken down by Microsoft on the Microsoft Store, we spotted out its system pre-requisites, which include:

Windows 10 Enterprise Builds 17718+ Branch: Any Hypervisor capabilities enabled in BIOS At least 4GB of RAM At least 5GB free disk space At least 2 CPU cores

Meanwhile, Windows 10 already has a similar sandboxed feature known as Windows Defender Application Guard; this feature also utilizes virtualization technology in isolating viruses and malware on Microsoft Edge. As at the moment, Microsoft has not disclosed any details concerning InPrivate Desktop application. It could probably be a surprise inclusion for the Windows 10 19H1 release. Also, there is no official announcement by Microsoft whether InPrivate Desktop application will be available for now or the precise Windows edition, but our best is on Windows 10 Enterprise.
