At Build 2018 is the place where major announcements have been made the last couple of days. At the event, Microsoft unveiled that the next Insider build of Windows 10 will allows you to use the shortcut mentioned above for more than switching between running apps. You’ll be able to use Alt+Tab also for switching between browser tabs. This is excellent news especially considering that these days everyone relies on shortcuts for more comfortable and faster actions. The new feature comes packed in Sets, and it will probably trigger some confusion. Here’s why.
Useful on Microsoft Edge exclusively?
For the moment, it’s not 100% precise how this would work. Microsoft only revealed that you’d be able to use Alt-Tab to switch between running apps and Edge tabs as well. But Microsoft only mentioned its Edge browser in regards to this new feature. This may be because the company doesn’t want to bring up other browsers or because the function is experimental and for the moment it’s only supported by Edge.
System-wide vs. tabs in a set
More than that, Microsoft didn’t explain whether using the Alt-Tab shortcut to hop between apps and browser tabs would work on a system-wide basis or whether it would only allow navigation between tabs that have been added to a specific set.
Optional or not?
The third reason for the confusion is that we don’t know whether Microsoft decides to make the feature optional or not. We have to admit that changing such a long-standing keyboard shortcut will definitely trigger a lot of fuss among users so, and the tech giant should consider making things more transparent to dissipate all kinds of assumptions.
