When it comes to how exactly USB 3.2 will bring this much extra power onboard, it all has to do with the way USB Type-C was designed. The key to success is its multi-lane operation, allowing the newer USB specification to handle two 5Gbps lanes at the same time. The above benchmark would be possible on USB 3.0. On USB 3.1, they pushed it two lanes of 10Gbps instead. In more commonly used terms, this would amount to about 2 GB of transferred data across an interval as small as 2 seconds. That’s ridiculously fast but it’s the future it seems we’re heading towards.

Microsoft is at a crossroads

When it comes to the new USB specification which is based on USB C technology, Microsoft seems quite pleased and excited about what’s to come. However, that goes against their initial opinion on USB C which isn’t even featured on the Windows maker’s latest devices. Users of the newest Surface devices know what that means, as they don’t have access to the USB C port. Nevertheless, Microsoft is still an active component of the USB 3.0 Promoter Group. It has not held back any of its excitement towards the project and stated that it’s pleased with the results it managed to pull off. Alongside the other members of the Promoter Group, Microsoft brought forth what could be a really big deal for computing for years to come.

Not that far away

Even though it’s just been released, there isn’t that much time left until the world is able to benefit from the new USB 3.2 specification come this September 2017. The official launch will take place at the USB Developer Days event in North America. Those who’ll attend are in for a treat. Apart from the data transfer speed information and all of the usual details expected, there will also be information about charging speeds. It’s to be expected that such a major boost in power will also bring forth some really nice improvements in the charging department. Devices that charge via USB will definitely see an indirect boost in performance as well since they will charge faster. RELATED STORIES TO CHECK OUT:
