Windows 10 automatically enables Timeline when you upgrade to the Windows 10 April Update. You can disable the feature by going to Settings > Privacy > Activity History and unchecking the options ‘Let Windows collect my activities from this PC‘ and ‘Let Windows sync my activities from this PC to the cloud‘. On the other hand, many Windows 10 users really want to use Timeline and take advantage of its productivity options. However, this new feature may sometimes fail to work, as users report: Users also tried to tweak their Registry values to fix this problem — to no avail. Setting the EnableActivityFeed, PublishUserActivities and UploadUserActivities DWORD values to 1 fails to enable Timeline.

One Microsoft MVP suggested that performing a repair upgrade should fix this issue.
