In fact, both its Windows shell models, Andromeda and Polaris were considered dead in March. Andromeda OS was specifically designed for the folding dual-screen Surface tablets . Polaris, on the other hand, was the latest desktop framework made for the Windows core OS. Redmond company has previously mentioned Andromeda references in the SDK, where it shared space with Polaris and Windows Core OS. Polaris and Andromeda resemble Windows 10 S a lot, except that, they have not inherited any of its legacies. This is because, both the Windows shell projects belong to the Windows Core OS. Nevertheless, Microsoft has dumped the idea of copying Windows 10 and hence, dropped the Andromeda OS and Polaris projects.
What is Santorini?
Santorini is another name for Windows Lite which has now replaced the Andromeda references in the latest build releases. The changes in the references are conspicuous in the cellular connectivity area. Apparently, Microsoft hopes to make Santorini the OS for the informal Windows users. Power users and heavy business users will still run the Classic Windows 10 version. In essence, Microsoft intends to sell Santorini as an OS offering fast and easy updates. It will also run on the latest technology and receive the latest features making it the first choice for school students. Having said that, it will also slowly start showing up on consumer PCs. There’s no confirmation yet if it would be a Microsoft phone with Windows Lite or which OS would be assigned to its new device range. However, it’s pristine clear that it’s definitely not Andromeda.
