Project NEON adds a more pleasing interface to the latest version of Windows The Project Neon-centric visual overhaul of Windows 10 has been rumored for quite a while and teased us with a few select app updates recently. Now, it makes an appearance for Windows Insiders in the Microsoft Photos application. Project NEON is based on a design that plays with transparency and blurring in order to add a more aesthetically pleasing interface design to the newest version of Windows 10 apps. We first heard rumors about Project NEON back in 2016, but we’ve only seen its first screens this past February as part of a Microsoft developer stream. It seems to b inspired by how Apple’s macOS popularized a more subtle visual style.

Project NEON for Microsoft Photos arrived in the Fast Ring

Now, Project NEON for Microsoft Photos is available to a few select users even if it hasn’t yet been officially announced by Microsoft. It was distributed as part of the new 17.428.10010 version of Windows 10 that only a few Insiders currently have access to. There’s no word on when Slow Ring Insiders are expected to receive the update sometime in the near future.

A softer and more translucent interface

Once users gain access, they’ll be able to see a softer and more translucent interface with a touch of blur added to the overall aesthetic. There is also a new Bing search bar, but this specific feature doesn’t add that much to the experience. Microsoft Photos is not the only app that received the Project NEON treatment. We’ve also seen similar updates coming to the Groove Music, Movies and TV, and Dropbox. If you’re thinking about running a fresh install of Windows 10 before gaining access to the fresh looks of Project NEON, you should go for it! RELATED STORIES TO CHECK OUT:
