In an interview with Paul Thurrott, Microsoft’s executive vice president in charge of Windows and Devices, Terry Myerson said that the company plans to merge the Xbox One Preview Program and Windows 10 Insider program after the release of the Anniversary update this June. For Myerson,”It doesn’t make sense for these to be separate,” clearly pointing to a single Preview program for users on both platforms starting from June.
Microsoft’s plans for integrating Windows 10 and Xbox One
At this week’s Build conference, Microsoft laid the groundwork for the future of Windows 10 and Xbox One. The starting point of these big changes is the freshly announced Windows 10 Anniversary Update which will bring a number of revolutionary innovations to Microsoft’s platforms. With cross-platform compatible apps and games, merged stores, and now merged Preview programs, users will be able to take advantage of both platforms to the fullest. Ever since it announced Windows 10 back in 2014, Microsoft’s goal was to make it ‘an operating system for all platforms,’ and despite the fact that some crucial cross-platform features are still missing, Microsoft is making good on its original mission. With more features to be announced and the potential for many more improvements in the future, we’ll reach the point where it won’t matter which device is used: the Windows 10 experience will be same regardless.
