This translates into more than one billion new Internet users that will be able to access the web in the coming four years, taking the number of total Internet users to more than 4 billion. This is an excellent piece of news since this means that more and more people will have access to Internet, especially in developing and under-developed countries. By 2020, 59% of Latin America will be connected to the Internet, up from 45%. In the Middle East and Africa region, 27% of the population will have Internet access, up from the current 18%. When it comes to the number of Internet users per countries by 2020 , the top 5 in developed countries will look like this: Ten billion new devices will connect to the Internet network during the next four years, which means that there will be 3.4 connected devices per capita, up from today’s 2.2 average. The Internet of Things (IoT) will grow almost exponentially within that time frame, fueled by video surveillance systems, smart meters, digital health devices and, we would add, self-driving cars. Microsoft already introduced its self-driving car prototype with Cortana on board. In order to work, the car mainly relies on machine-to-machine systems, as it accomplishes various tasks such as slowing down when pedestrians are near, stopping at red lights and driving itself. The car can do all these things by collecting data from nearby devices, as everybody is wearing a device which is connected to the car in Microsoft’s world.
