How to install KB4481031

This update was primarily available to all users as an automatic update on Windows update till January 22nd (two days after its release date). However from January 23rd, it will not be available as an automatic update, rather you can install it by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. It seems that Microsoft actually rolled out this update by mistake.

What’s new in KB4481031?

This update brings various improvements to the .NET Framework. It solves the issues related to garbage collection in JIT-compiled code and race condition that affects IIS-hosted Net.tcp WCF services. But this does not end here. It also fixes the issues concerning SerializationException and COMException. Here is the official changelog:

“Addresses a garbage collection issue in JIT-compiled code. Addresses a race condition that affects IIS-hosted Net.tcp WCF services when the portsharing service is restarted, causing the service to become unavailable. Addresses issues related to:  Special mode in which the logical call context is not serializable, causing SerializationException when secondary app domains call back to the default domain to collect evidence. Special mode in which the thread is running under an impersonated user token instead of the primary process token, causing COMException when evidence examination triggers urlmon initialization in the system, which in turn fails because it assumes a level of registry access that is not always present when impersonating”

This new update does not bring new operating features but mainly deals with bugs fixes. Until now, no issue has been recorded with its installation. Let us know if you face any issue while installing this new update to your PC. RELATED POSTS TO CHECK OUT:
